Praying . . . through our city

Join us as we seek God for guidance and direction in 2010! Pray that many will come to have an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior. Pray for the many who are looking and searching for the truth, but in all the wrong places. May God shine like a beacon on every hill of Kampala, so that all may see and come to know him!

"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying "This is the way; walk in it." Isaiah 30:21

through the day to day living conditions . . .

We work in areas like these through-out the city. A small, one room, mud, brick or alumimum siding hut is the norm. A shared "squatty potty" and a communal shower make up the neighborhood. Yet, through these neighborhoods, shines the light of Jesus Christ. Through your prayers, the Word of Jesus is reaching into these areas. Reaching the "witch doctor" huts, the pubs and the homes of prostitutes. Jesus came for all, He loved the world, not just one tribe or one nation. Pray that even through it all, the suffering, the lack of daily necessities, God will be known. Pray that there will be ways those living in these areas can obtain employment, training, and education to provide for their families. Pray that a universal form of education can be made available to each child, regardless of their financial situation. Pray for the future, the children, as they seek to learn and grow both in knowledge and in the Lord.

Pray that officials, leaders and lay people will strive to work together to alleviate poverty in this country. Pray that one day, children can play in neighborhoods where there is no raw sewage in front of their house. Where they can be free of diseases associated with poor sanitation, poor infrastructure and poor water. A place where they can safely play and go to school.

As you perform your daily tasks, please pray for those here in Uganda who are doing their daily tasks.

"Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come."

2 Corinthians 1:21-22

through the sickness and disease . . .

There are approximately 3 million people living in Kampala. Many are unable to afford medical care. Many have to choose between medicine or food. Many times the need for even the most basic of treatment goes unfulfilled. Pray that God will provide a way that this country can come together to provide medical coverage to those who are most vulnerable, the urban poor. Pray that medical care would be available to all, just not the affluent. Pray for good health for our Pastors, ministry leaders and missionaries that visit these slums daily. May God's power and mercy be evident to all who are sick and hurting.

"For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted
ones. " Isaiah 49:13

through the false teachings and empty promises . . .

There are many voices shouting out for attention in Kampala! Many are pouring out false hope and false teachings to those who live and work in this city. Many are hopeless and desperate for something. They turn to alcohol, drugs and witchdoctors to provide them with temporary fulfillment. Pray that God, the Almighty will deliver this city from the those who seek to harm and corrupt. May God be glorified and exalted for who He is and the truth, hope and peace only He can offer. May Uganda take refuge in HIM!

"The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him." Psalm 37:40

Welcome to Namuwango . . .

also known as Soweto, one of the largest and poorest communities in Kampala. Many in this area come from the north to escape civil violence and to find employment. Crime, disease and hopelessness shroud Soweto. However, the light of Jesus Christ is shining brightly into the darkest corners of this community, through those who worship here each week. Please pray for those who live and work around the church. Pray that they may hear the words preached, the praises being sung, and the adungu, making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Pray for those in the church, that they may not fear to share the saving grace of Jesus Christ with their neighbors and friends. Thank you in joining us in prayer for Soweto!
"Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious." Psalm 66:1-2

Abundant Gospel Sowing

That is our prayer! Please pray for abundant gospel sowing in the area of Soweto. We know that God will bless this community with His word. Pray that these worshippers will be bold in their testimonies and sharing of the Word. Pray for guidance to those they should share with and disciple. Thank you for your commitment to lift this church and community before the Father. May He be glorified through it all!

"Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together." Psalm 34:3

Praise & Worship . . . Acholi style

This is the adungu, a musical instrument, its size determining its sound! It could sound like a guitar or a harp, but either way, you know you are praising God Acholi style when you hear them play. We praise God for the gift of worship through music. What a blessing these instruments make to the sounds of life in Soweto. May God bless the time of praise and worship as it reaches the ears of those in this community. Pray that God will speak to them who so desperately need to hear Him!

"My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul."
Psalm 108:1
